Aaron Johnsen-President of North America and the Caribbean to resign after a decade with CONIFA

Aaron Johnsen will be stepping down from his role as President of North America and the Caribbean.

We can announce that Aaron Johnsen, the incumbent President of North America and the Caribbean, will resign from his post in early 2024.

Aaron has been involved in the CONIFA movement for over a decade, and has significantly contributed to the growth and development of the organization across the America’s and beyond. His CONIFA journey started way back in January 2013, offering his support to the fledgling Cascadia Association Football Federation, who would later perform admirably at the 2018 World Football Cup in London. At the CONIFA AGM in 2020, Aaron was voted onto the Executive Committee, before assuming his current presidential role.

In each position Aaron has occupied, he has always performed with diligence, integrity, and with the best interests of the organization in mind, and has inspired others with his enthusiasm and vision for the future of grassroots football. After leading CONIFA’s efforts in North America for four years, Aaron leaves the region in a healthy position, having worked hard to establish a strong, infrastructural framework. This has enabled multiple associations to enrol into the North American confederation, and ensured the professional and consistent execution of fixtures and tournaments. Indeed, thanks in no small part to Aaron’s hard work, the inaugural North American Championships are scheduled to take place in September, as hosts ANBM welcome their regional opponents to Oaxaca, Mexico.

Aaron’s decision to leave CONIFA is largely a consequence of his desire to spend more time with his family, as he awaits the arrival of his second child in October. He also plans to invest more focus into his personal business interests.

The CONIFA senior leadership team would like to extend their immense gratitude to Aaron, and thank him for his incredible efforts during his affiliation with the organization.

The search for a successor has already commenced, with Aaron playing an active role in the recruitment process. If a suitable replacement is identified in the coming months, Aaron will exit his post with immediate effect. However, if required, Aaron will remain in situ until the CONIFA AGM in 2024.
