Build-up for the 2018 Confederation of Independent Football Associations\u00a0(CONIFA) World Football Cup continued last week, with the draw taking place during the CONIFA Annual General Meeting in Northern Cyprus. The World Football Cup, which will be held from\u00a0Thursday 31 May to Saturday 9 June<\/span>\u00a0in London, is set to bring together 16 teams from five continents for a diverse extravaganza of football, culture and international understanding.<\/p>\n

Group 1 will see\u00a0Barawa, a region of Somalia, join\u00a0Ellan Vannin\u00a0(the Isle of Man),\u00a0Tamil Eelam\u00a0and\u00a0Cascadia, a geographic area of the United States and Canada.<\/p>\n

Group 2 is arguably the \u2018group of death\u2019, bringing together defending champions\u00a0Abkhazia, and 2017 CONIFA European Football Cup runners-up\u00a0Northern Cyprus, both partially-recognised states, along with\u00a0Felvidek, a Hungarian-inhabited region of Slovakia, and\u00a0Tibet.<\/p>\n

Group 3 pits European champions\u00a0Padania, a region of Italy, with\u00a0Sz\u00e9kely Land, a Hungarian part of Romania, Pacific nation\u00a0Kiribati\u00a0and\u00a0Matabeleland, an area of Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n

Finally, Group 4 brings together 2016 World Football Cup runners up\u00a0Panjab, the\u00a0United Koreans in Japan,\u00a0Western Armenia\u00a0and one of CONIFA\u2019s newest members,\u00a0Kabylia\u00a0representing a region of north Africa.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are excited to be moving towards what promises to be our biggest tournament yet,\u201d said CONIFA President Per-Anders Blind. \u201cThe draw has provided some interesting and unusual encounters, and we are sure all games will entertain the large crowds that we are sure London is going to supply.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cArrangements for London 2018 are progressing well,\u201d explained CONIFA General Secretary Sascha D\u00fcerkop. \u201cTickets will go on sale shortly, and we will soon be announcing our major tournament sponsors, stadiums and associated events. We can\u2019t wait to bring the CONIFA story to the home of football.\u201d<\/p>\n

CONIFA\u00a0is an international football federation for teams outside of FIFA, with members including states, de facto states, regions, minority groups\u00a0and\u00a0sports-isolated territories.\u00a0CONIFA\u00a0is a non-profit organisation registered in Sweden.<\/p>\n
