Official communique 12-2024

Dear CONIFA members, members of the Media and stakeholders!

This official communique is a quick summary of CONIFA news that we feel can be valuable to share. If you have any additional questions, don´t hesitate to contact any Continental President, our General secretary or me.

No CONIFA Men World Football Cup 2025

After the last minute wihdrawal from Kurdistan FA as host, we´ve been working closely together with F.A.D. São Paulo, Brazil as a potential host of the tournament in 2025. F.A.D. showcased a really good and professional proposal. CONIFA demanded proof of ability to deliver the event based on infrastructure, health/security, logistics, hospitaliy, orgaization, financial abilities and more. We could secure several ”demands”, but after several extended deadlines and meetings, we needed to ”pull the handbreak” due to the fact that F.A.D São Paulo didn´t manage to show proof of organisational or financial ability. It´s a sad fact, but we must respect the enormous workload and engagement needed from our members in terms of preparing their teams and the time needed to raise funds for their travel to such a important tournament. The risk of a potential cancellation from F.A.D São Paulo was to high. Our decision is also based on the respect towards Media, fans and stakeholders all over the world.

This doesn´t mean that we´ve given up São Paulo as a possible WFC location. The people and location are great and it would a fantastic boost for CONIFA in South America plus create memories for life for all teams and their players. We hope that additional time will help the F.A.D. team to prepare for a later stage.

Instead, we will focus on several Continental tournaments (Men and Women), friendly matches and ”smaller” weekend tournaments in 2025, the search for a WFC host 2026/27 will be a ongoing process in 2025.

We´ve signed an agreement with MEI in London (Major Event International Ltd), who will support us in the search for locations for our next World Football Cup. CONIFA will also attend their ”Host & Federation Summit”,16 – 18th June in Lausanne, Switzerland.

CONIFA expands into Canada with historic partnership with ISCA

The Confederation of Independent Football Associations (CONIFA) is officially expanding its reach into Canada, creating new opportunities for communities to connect through football (Soccer).

ISCA becomes the first Canadian organization to join CONIFA in several years, marking a historic step forward in representing Canadian Indigenous communities on the global stage.

This development is an important step in realizing the goal of uniting Indigenous communities across Canada under the CONIFA umbrella, celebrating their unique cultures and providing pathways for Indigenous athletes to showcase their talents on an international stage.
