CONIFA World Ranking
Nagorno-Karabakh is a de-facto independent state in the Caucasus region. Regardless its status of not being recognized the region between Armenia and Azerbaijan is governed by its own government.
This independence is also visible in football. With the Artsakh League the nation is running their own league from 2009 on.
The Artsakh Football Federation (AFF) was established in 2012 and is led by Samuel Karapetyan. Before the CONIFA World Football Cup 2014 they only played two friendly matches, against Abkhazia (1-1 and 3-0). The team had bad luck during the WFC14, meeting finalists Ellan Vannin and Countea De Nissa already in the group stage. Afterwards they won convincing against Darfur United and Sapmi.
Sapmi – Nagorno Karabakh 1-5
Darfur United – Nagorno Karabakh 0-12
Nagorno Karabakh – Countea De Nissa 0-1
Ellan Vannin – Nagorno Karabakh 3-2
